MiCareerQuest™ seeks job opportunities

FLINT – For some, finding work in another city or state is much more attractive than graduating from college or acquiring a skilled trade and choosing to work and live in the area in which they grew up in.

“Every day, we hear from businesses about the challenges they have finding talent. One way to help combat this problem is by keeping our youth here in the region after graduation,” said Jody Kerbyson, CEO of GST Michigan Works! “While it’s hard to provide them with a big picture view of all the careers that are available to them, we’ve found a way to highlight those careers that will be in the greatest demand for our region in the future… MiCareerQuest.”

MiCareerQuest™ is an event like no other! It originated in Grand Rapids and has been replicated throughout the state to provide youth with a hands-on career exploration experience. It exposes students to careers they may not have thought of…or even known existed prior to attending. It allows students to touch and feel careers available to them in the future… right here in our community. Careers that will be highlighted are in the Advanced Manufacturing, Construction Trades, Health Sciences and In-Demand (everything else!) sectors.

This event would not be possible without the support of private business and education sponsorships. The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO), The Labor’s Union of North America (LiUNA Local 1075), Regional MiSTEM Networks, Action Management and Mott Community College are among the Platinum sponsors for this event.

MiCareerQuest™ East is an invitation only event and is scheduled to be held at the Dort Federal Event Center in Flint on Oct. 23, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and approximately 3,000-plus students in the region are registered to participate in this unique career exploration experience. — G.G.
