The Detroit Tigers have now officially become a “cannot watch” for the Fat Guy. The debacle Monday night against the Cincinnati Redlegs was the final straw for me. Detroit was leading this baseball game 5-0 and then lost 12-5 after the Reds put up 10 runs in one inning. The Reds snapped a ninegame losing streak to boot to add insult to injury. The Reds’ Brandon Phillips drove in four runs with a home run and a triple.
It all goes back to the same old thing. Detroit’s bullpen is a repeat statement week after week: They Stink! Al “Al Be A Turkey” has no business wearing a Major League Baseball uniform; period. Then the rest of the bullpen isn’t worth a dozen dirty batting practice baseballs. I have had my fill of this Detroit Tigers’ pitching staff. I am officially checking out unless I want to watch some new young players.
I also will watch Miggy hit and J.D. Martinez hit and that’s it!
Let’s all be thankful that football season for both college and pro football has arrived. Hey, Detroit Tigers, I’ll check back with your team in spring training, maybe! The Fat Guy has officially put the tarp on the field for this baseball season. I’m going to go find some golf to watch. It can’t be any worse than watching the lowly Tigers!
New era at the Big House
The college football season opens up September 3 on a Thursday night. The Michigan Wolverines travel to Utah to play the Utes. Utah has been installed as a six-point favorite.
The game starts at 8:30 p.m. and can be seen on Fox Sports 1. The big question is, who will take the snap under center for the Wolverines? Will it be Shane Morris or Jake Rudock, the Iowa transfer. I have a feeling it will be Jake Rudock because of the experience he has playing at Iowa.
It’s so hard to believe the Jim Harbaugh era at Michigan is about to begin. The expectations and hype now surrounding the Michigan Wolverines’ program are astronomical. Will Michigan fans expect too much too soon? I think so. I think this is an eight-win team at best and nine wins would be a tremendous season in Ann Arbor. I know I cannot wait to kick off in Utah.
Goal is national champions
The Michigan State Spartans are ranked in the Top 10 heading into the season and with good reason. They have a great defense and a returning quarterback in Connor Cook. The expectations in East Lansing have to be possible National Champions, don’t they? I think it does. Coach Mark Dantonio has built one H-E- Double hockey sticks of a football program! The Spartans’ football team has had tremendous success the past couple of a years. The confidence MSU displays every week is becoming more and more evident. The Spartans believe they should win and are on the verge of becoming an elite football program. Michigan State fans, you have a lot of excitement to look forward to in 2015. Can you say college football playoffs? Let’s all hope so. Michigan State opens up September 4 on Friday night against the Western Michigan Broncos at 7 p.m. on ESPNU. Las Vegas has installed MSU as a 19-point favorite.
Tough loss for Detroit
The Detroit Lions lost last Saturday night to the Washington Redskins 21-17. Matt Stafford looks real good to me so far this preseason at quarterback for the Detroit Lions. The Lions will head to Jacksonville on Friday night for the official season dress rehearsal. The game will be broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m. I hope coach Jim Caldwell lets the starters play at least three full quarters.
Not so good news
The news out of Green Bay was bad this week. Jordy Nelson will be lost for the season to a torn ACL. The Packers will miss him a ton. Washington says RG3 is good to go after getting his bell rung. We’ll see what the concussion protocol has to say about that. Lots of serious injuries to players so early here in the preseason. It’s a risky game played by risk takers. It’s all part of the game. email@example.com
