Motown cover band to headline GDL Black History Month Brunch



GENESEE COUNTY — The Genesee District Library will present the 16th Annual Black History Month Brunch at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 11 at the Genesys Conference & Banquet Center in Grand Blanc. Part of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Genesee District Library’s Summer Reading Challenge for kids and teens.

The brunch will feature Detroit Motown cover band Serieux, voted the Best R&B Vocal Group in Michigan by the Black Music Award Association, and the Best R&B Vocal Group in Southeastern Michigan by the Detroit Metro Area Musicians and Entertainment Association.

Also performing will be comedienne Crystal P., who has appeared on Showtime at the Apollo, NBC’s Last Comic Standing, and recorded A Time to Laugh with Vickie Winans for B.E.T.

During the brunch, the Genesee District Library will recognize four individuals with the Award of Excellence for their achievements, contributions and service. The honorees include Ms. Sheila Graham (Flint Community Schools), Ms. Yvonne Penton (House of Esther), Mr. Reggie Smith (UAW Local 659), and Mr. Charles Winfrey (The New McCree Theatre). The event will also recognize YouthQuest/TeenQuest (Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce) with the Partner in Progress Award.

The Black History Month Brunch is sponsored by the Genesee Health System, the GDL Foundation, Sylvia and Roosevelt Keys, WJRT ABC12 and WDZZ 92.7.
