Michigan State says, here we come, Sweet Sixteen once again!
The Spartans have once again found March madness magic. The Spartys disposed of No. 2-seeded Virginia 60-54 and sent them home from the tourney for the second consecutive season. I know I predicted the Cavaliers to defeat the Spartans and once again my prediction was wrong.
I am used to that, for sure.
The Spartans held Virginia to 29 percent shooting from the field. Coach Tom Izzo made some changes on defense that differed from coach Izzo’s normal defense he likes to play. The players bought in and only had two days to practice it. I would say the players were some quick learners.
The Spartans’ bracket is set up for them to win and advance to the Final Four. The break came when Villanova, the No. 1 seed, went bye bye thanks to the Wolfpack of N.C. State.
While on the subject, this is two years in a row the Villanova basketball team has choked and gagged its way out of the NCAA tourney as a high-seeded team.
The East bracket has Michigan State taking on a respectable Oklahoma team at 10 p.m. tomorrow night. This will be an awesome basketball game, I think. Las Vegas has installed MSU as two-point favorites. I like Sparty to move on and advance and play N.C. State which will defeat the Louisville Cardinals. MSU will then advance to the Final Four after taking down the Wolfpack of N.C. State. The crystal cheeseball has spoken! Let’s start the Sparty party, baby!
The South bracket has a surprise team in UCLA. Yeah, the one I said didn’t belong in the tournament! Another swing and miss by the Fat Guy. I will say a controversial goaltending call helped the cause which I thought was not a goal tend by the SMU defender.
UCLA will lose to the Gonzaga Zags as the Zags look pretty darn good to me this year.
Here is my upset special: Utah will take down the No. 1-seeded Duke Blue Devils! Yes, this Utah team can play defense and Duke does not. The Utah Utes will beat them in the half-court game. Gonzaga will then beat the Utes and move on to the Final Four. Finally! The Zags get it done!
The West bracket will have the Wisconsin Badgers taking on the North Carolina Tar Heels. Wisconsin has too much for the Heels to pull off the upset, I think. I still think the Badgers can win this whole tourney, actually. The Xavier team has a tough task with the Arizona Wildcats. Xavier, however, impressed me over the weekend with their play on the court. Arizona will find the winner circle in what will be a close game.
What a match-up between the Wildcats of Arizona and Badgers of Wisconsin! The winner of this game can give Kentucky all it wants on the floor in the title game. Who will win, is the question. I will stick with the Big Ten Conference Wisconsin Badgers by a bucket over Arizona.
The Midwest bracket has the tourney favorite Kentucky in it. No shocker there! The Shocker is from Wichita State.
Yes, the Wichita State Shockers, who knocked off their in-state rivals, Kansas. Remember, Kansas refused to schedule the Shockers in the regular season!
I see why now.
The Shockers will play Notre Dame which struggled in both wins over the weekend. I like the Shockers to move on. The Kentucky Wildcats will crush the West Virginia Mountaineers and then crush the Wichita State Shockers and shock nobody by going to the Final Four as expected.
My bracket has the Final Four as Wisconsin, Kentucky, Michigan State and Gonzaga. firstname.lastname@example.org
