Myrtie Marie Coffey



MYRTIE MARIE COFFEY, 82, Davison, MI, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 25, 2020. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on a later date.

Marie was born in Fowlerville, MI on August 7, 1938, daughter of the late Albert LaRaine & Caroline (Franks) Coffey. She was a graduate of Byron Agricultural High School Class of 1956. Marie continued her education, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1964 and a Master of Arts degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1970. She spent her career as an Elementary Special Education Teacher in the Flint School District, teaching kindergarten through sixth grade. Marie served, at various times, as President, Secretary and Historian for Creative Stitchers Chapter of Embroiders Guild of America. She was a member of the Iota Zeta Chapter of the Pi Omicron National Sorority. Marie volunteered her time as a storyteller for the Flint Public Library and she knitted hats, booties, sweaters, and blankets for the Neo- Natal Unit at Hurley Hospital. Her passion was her family, books, needlework, and travel. She was also a lifelong Wolverine and Detroit sports fan.

Marie will be greatly missed by her sister-inlaw, Diane Coffey; 2 nieces, Angela (Charlie) Bissat and Jody Rivas; 3 great-nephews, Tyler (Jennifer) Christy, Eric Christy and Kyle (Samantha) Christy; 2 great-great-nieces, Tarynn Christy and Tatelynn Christy; many special friends. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Caroline Coffey and her brother, Harry Coffey of Mesa, Arizona.
