FLINT TWP. — The 7th annual Stuff the Bus With School Stuff Drive kicked off Friday with a 12-hour event in the parking lot of Applebee’s restaurant, 3129 Miller, and will continue through August 17.

A school bus loaned by the Genesee Intermediate School District was brought into Applebee’s parking lot and by early afternoon was loaded with about 40 donations including backpacks, said Connie Peters, director of development for the Salvation Army which is sponsoring the drive with CARS 108 and ABC 12.

The goal is to “totally stuff’ the bus with desperately needed school supplies for families who are struggling financially. Over the past six years, more than 2,350 book bags stuffed with school supplies have been distributed to children in Genesee County.

Needed items include backpack/bookbags, spiral notebooks, markers and highlighters, crayons and colored pencils, pencil pouches and boxes, No. 2 pencils, boxes of tissues, large pink erasers, pens, pocket folders, loose leaf filler paper, glue sticks, rulers, scissors and thumb drives.
