Signage went up last week revealing that the Burlington store will be the new occupant at a former Sports Authority store at 4095 Miller Road. The 43,000 square-foot store has been vacant since summer 2016 when Sports Authority closed but renovation crews have been working inside the then-unidentified store for several months. Burlington’s departure from its current location at Genesee Valley Center mall will leave a large anchor store vacancy there. Mall officials could not be reached for comment on the change. The relocated Burlington store will bring approximately 50-100 new jobs, according to a press release. To apply, visit Burlington’s job website at www.BurlingtonStores.jobs
In another retail transition last weekend, Gander Outdoors held a grand opening in the former Gander Mountain store, 5038 Miller road. Marcus Lemonis, star of CNBC’s The Profit reality show, bought Gander Mountain assets in bankruptcy court in May 2017 and is beginning to reopen many of the chain’s stores, according to a press release. The 65,000-square-foot Flint Township store will be one of eight Gander Outdoor retail locations in Michigan, operating with over 70 part-time employees and full-time staff.
In other retail news, Toys R Us, operating since 1948, announced on March 15 that it is closing all of its U.S. stores including the Babies R Us stores which will create two more big-box vacancies on Linden Road. Toys R Us is located at 3250 South Linden Road and Babies R Us at 3274 South Linden Road.
