New on-call firefighter hired

FLINT TWP. — Not only will newly hired on-call firefighter Scott Webb bring an extra set of helping hands to fire incidents, he can also offer prayers.

Webb lives in the township and also is an ordained minister, said Assistant Fire Chief Mike Burkley, in seeking approval from the township board to hire Webb.

Webb has passed all pre-tests including physical agility and will be attending the fire academy in the fall, Burkley said.

Webb is married with three children. He and his family attended the board meeting at which he was hired.

Responding to a question from Township Supervisor Karyn Miller, Webb said he attends church in Belleville.

Trustee Barb Vert asked when Webb did his testing and if anyone accompanied him.

Burkley said Webb passed the physical agility test in Clio in July and was accompanied by another candidate.

The board unanimously approved hiring Webb. Trustee George Menoutes was absent.
