FLINT TWP. — To back-to-school shopping lists for new shoes, clothing and book bags, the Great Clips hair salon adds new haircut.

New in town for this year’s back-to-school shopping rush, the hair salon at 4455 Corunna Road is introducing itself to the community with a flurry of coupons and promotions.

A team of salon stylists recently visited several daycare centers in the area to distribute gift bags containing a coupon, pencil, sticker, tattoo, comb and other useful items. They are planing to do the same when public schools open next month.

The promotion started August 11 and will continue through Sept. 10, said Jennifer Coster, manager of the 10- stylists salon.

Children who come to the salon for a haircut also receive a gift bag and a chance to win a free T-shirt.

The salon also offers discounts via a scratch-off card with prizes including free hair products and discounts ranging from 15-50 percent off.

Also during the Back to School event, the salon is offering $6.99 haircuts to first-time customers and $2 off to repeat customers.

For trend followers, longer skater cuts are popular for boys and stacked angled bobs are the hottest look for girls, Coster said.

All stylists at the salon attended Great Clips Academy in Farmington Hills. It is a three-day intensive training school where all stylists go to learn about the latest trends, new products, haircutting skills and customer service.

Great Clips is a Minneapolis-based national chain of more than 3,000 affiliate salons and for the past 30 years has offered competitively priced haircuts for men, women and children.

Stylists at the Corunna Road location also specialize in updos for special occasions. Other salon services include deep conditioning treatments.

The salon has a convenient online checkin service. Customers can go to www.greatclips.com, search for their preferred location, click on the Check-In image on the map, and enter their name and phone number. The information is immediately sent to the wait list on the salon’s computer register which eliminates waiting time if they arrive within an hour, Coster said.

The salon is located next door to the Rally’s restaurant in the shopping strip in front of Lowe’s home improvement store. Salon hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday- Friday, Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.. on Sunday. They can be contacted at (810) 230-1818.
