FLINT TWP. – Two free meals a day for all Carman-Ainsworth students is one of several initiatives coming this school year that were highlighted in a community letter from Superintendent Eddie Kindle.
Also coming are a schoolbased health center, a revamped district website and new attendance hours for elementary school students.
The free breakfast and lunch available to all students is based on current Free and Reduced Lunch data, Kindle said. Carman-Ainsworth Schools qualify to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision program designed to provide free breakfast and lunch daily to all students without the burden of collecting and processing free and reduced-price meal applications, beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. Although students will receive meals at no charge, all families will be required to complete a Household Information Survey to fulfill requirements and obligations for participation in the program. Survey forms are available in the main office of each school.
The new school-based Health Center at C-A high school is in partnership with the Regional Alliance for Healthy Schools (RAHS) at Michigan Medicine. The fully functioning health center will provide valuable resources to C-A students and families that will include but is not limited to immunizations, physical exams, sick visits, nutrition counseling, health and fitness education, confidential mental health services and psychotherapy, vision screening and referrals to community resources. For more information about the health center, visit the RAHS website at: umhs-rahs.org/ or call 810-591-5473.
Carman-Ainsworth also is launching an updated website. Along with a new look; users will soon have an opportunity to download an app to a smart phone or any other auxiliary computer device, which will allow for more efficient connections to information concerning student and district information
