Public hearing on 2011 budget

Genesee Area Bead Society meets first Tuesday of month

SWARTZ CREEK — The Genesee Area Bead Society meets at First Baptist Church of Swartz Creek from 6-8 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month.

The society has speakers, demonstrations, potlucks, drawings, picnics and discount cards from three sponsoring bead shops. Other members of our group offer discounts as well.

A person’s first visit is free. Membership for the year is $10, which includes three “make and takes,” discount cards and more. The discount cards gives members a 10 percent discount all the time, and 20 percent off at the first full, three-day weekend of the month.

The three sponsoring shops are Beadin Mon’ on Miller Rd. in Flint Twp.; Bead Haven in Frankenmuth; and Beadifferant in Oxford. ITT offers new degree in wireless communications

SWARTZ CREEK — ITT Technical Institute, 6359 Miller Rd., now offers a new associate of applied science degree program in Mobile Communications Technology in its School of Information Technology.

ITT Tech’s Mobile Communications Technology program is designed to help graduates prepare for entry-level positions that involve implementing and supporting mobile wireless communications systems and devices. The curriculum focuses on analyzing, maintaining and troubleshooting electronic, digital and mobile wireless communications systems at both the component and system levels. Workshops at Art Gallery

SWARTZ CREEK — The Swartz Creek Art Gallery, 8048 Miller Rd., will hold a variety of workshops for budding artists beginning Jan. 5.

The workshops, which run 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday evenings, will be taught by Tonya Henderson-Rollyson. On Jan. 5, the workshop is “Art Marketing Series: Writing Your Bio” and costs $20. On Jan. 12, the workshop is “Art Marketing Series: Writing Your Statement” and is $20. On Jan. 19, the workshop is “Art Marketing Series: Preparing Your Resume & Portfolio” and costs $20. On Jan. 26, the workshop is “Critique & Mentoring” and costs $10.

On Feb. 2 and 9, the workshop is “Introduction to Acrylics” and costs $50. On Feb. 16, the workshop is “Critique & Mentoring” and costs $10. On Saturday, March 19, Henderson-Rollyson offers an Acrylic Painting Workshop from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. for $95.
