Auditions for Center Stage production
SWARTZ CREEK — Swartz Creek Center Stage will hold auditions 7 p.m. Jan. 17- 18 in Room 210 at Mary Crapo for its next production, The Curious Savage, a comedy by John Patrick.

Thomas to speak at Historical Society meeting
SWARTZ CREEK — Historian and Civil War researcher Len Thomas will be the featured guest at the Swartz Creek Area Historical Society’s meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at Swartz Creek City Hall, 8083 Civic Dr.
Thomas, a resident of Swartz Creek, will talk about Lucy Blanchard, aka “Elusive Lucy,” a Civil War nurse who died in Fenton. He will share Blanchard’s stor y, which came from his research, with attendees of the meeting. The public is invited to attend. Mid Michigan Derby Girls January bout to raise funds for Shelter of Flint
MOUNT MORRIS — Start the new year off right and help the Mid Michigan Derby Girls raise funds for nonprofit organizations, the Shelter of Flint and Team Will.
The Mid Michigan Derby Girls encourage confidence, leadership and athleticism in women while also supporting a healthy and physically active community. The skaters of the roller derby league make it their goal to donate volunteer time and a percentage of ticket sales to organizations with similar goals each season. This season the league will help combat homelessness in the Flint area by donating to the Shelter of Flint and will suppor t finding a cure for cancer by donating to Team Will, a cycling team raising awareness and funds for the fight against cancer.
The Mid Michigan Derby Girls will take on Northeastern Ohio roller derby team, the NEO Rock N’ Rollergirls. The bout will begin 7 p.m. Jan. 15 in the hockey rink at Skateland Arena, 8460 N. Dort Hwy. in Mt. Morris Township. At 6 p.m. the doors will open for seating.
Advance tickets cost $6 and can be purchased from an MMDG skater, from Skateland Arena, The Dive Shop at G4020 Corunna Rd., The Locker Room at 213 N. Main St. in Davison or online at www.midmichiganderbygirls.com. Tickets will also be available at the door for $8. The league offers free admission for children 12 and younger with purchase of an adult ticket (limit — two children).
