Big Band Memories at McCarty Library

Volunteer drivers needed

GENESEE COUNTY — The American Red Cross Genesee-Lapeer Chapter Med-A-Ride Program needs volunteer drivers. The Genesee-Lapeer Chapter works with Lapeer County residents who need help with transportation to out of town medical appointments.

The Chapter has a van that has been equipped with handicapped equipment, such as a chair lift, etc., in order to help these individuals. Volunteer drivers are needed one day a week. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Janet Hamm at 810-232-1401, ext. 304. — G.G.

Art Guild seeking donations

SWARTZ CREEK — The recently-formed Swartz Creek Area Art Guild is seeking donations of money, goods and/or services for its upcoming art gallery at 8048 Miller Rd.

The galler y will be used for teaching ar t, as well as providing a space for local artists to show and sell their ar t to the public. The galler y also will serve as a venue for individuals and families to enjoy a cultural atmosphere.

The Guild has a list of items that are needed, and all donations are tax deductible. The Swartz Creek Area Art Guild is a non-profit organization.

Van Slyke school reunion

GENESEE COUNTY — Genesee County Literacy Coalition has a lineup of tutors waiting to assist adults who need help to read for free.

35th Annual Banjorama coming to St. John’s

DAVISON — The 35th Annual Banjorama, presented by the Flint Banjo Club, will be held Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Parish Hall in Davison. Tickets are $12.50.

FYT opens stag door to public for backstage sale

FLINT — Flint Youth Theatre hosts its 10th Backstage Sale 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 25. Admission to the sale is free. A special preview sale will take place 7-9 p.m. Sept. 24.

Admission to the preview is $5 per person and affords patrons the first opportunity to purchase items before the sale on Saturday. The Backstage Sale takes place on stage at FYT, 1220 E. Kearsley St. in the Flint Cultural Center.

FYT’s popular flea market includes scenery, props, costumes and theatrical equipment.

“With a wild assortment of one-of-a-kind merchandise, this is the per fect opportunity to shop for and create unique Halloween or Renaissance Festival-style costumes. We welcome families, individuals and representatives from area theatre companies, haunted houses, drama programs and churches,” said FYT Executive Artistic Director, William P.
