Yes, I am a sick individual, I know. Why you ask? Because, I actually did follow through on my plans and attended the Lions preseason game in Pittsburgh last Saturday. I arrived there very early and watched up close as the Lions went through pre-game warm ups.
My first observation is Calvin Johnson is one freakish and ripped athlete. Wow! What a physical specimen he is. Let me state that I am not drinking any Lions Kool Aid this pre-season whatsoever. However, I noticed a better Lions football team on the field in Pittsburgh.
The defensive front put pressure on the Steelers’ first team offensive line. The Steelers were actually double teaming Mr. Suh, the number one pick. How is that for respect? Matty Stafford looked poised and under control running the offense. Here is an example of the difference between being a rookie and a second-year veteran. Pittsburgh blitzed off of the corner and Stafford found the hot read and completed a nice 10-yard pass play. There was no fear or panic leading to a case of happy feet. It actually got me excited to see that. The rookie running back Jahvid Best is one fast
dude. He turned the corner on a play designed to the outside and busted off a 10-yard run. He will be exciting to watch in a Honolulu blue uniform.
The trip was well worth it, as I enjoyed myself, and a few barley pops helped that cause, for sure. Bring on Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos Saturday night. Roar or snore, it’s Lions football time Lions fans.
Kevin Harvick passes Denny Hamlin with 11 laps to go to win at MIS in Brooklyn, Michigan. Tigers’ best fight occurs in dugout between Alex Avila and Armando Galarraga. No fight left in them on the field, however. PGA Championship has controversy as Dustin Johnson grounds club in a bunker. What’s the big deal? I do it all the time. Martin Kaymer defeats Bubba Watson in three-hole playoff to win. What drama on the old golf course. No Tiger Woods sighting in Wisconsin; on the leader board, that is. K-Rod punches father-in-law; out for the season. College football is getting closer. High school football is just two weeks away, also.
