Operation Toy Soldier begins December 7

GRAND BLANC — Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services will be hosting a special event this Saturday, Dec. 7, in honor of Operation Toy Soldier, a program designed to deliver new toys and gifts to U.S. military families. Owner Adam Martin would like to invite the community to join him at their S. Saginaw Street location for a donation drop-off and open house.

The special event will feature a visit from Santa Claus from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., along with police officers, a military vehicle, cookies, treats, hot chocolate and more.

“Operation Toy Soldier is a program developed by Veterans Funeral Care, a group out of Florida, and we’re a member of that group – the only member in Genesee County, in fact,” said Martin. “They developed this program to collect toys, gift cards, monetary donations and things like that to help veterans, actively deployed military families, or families with illness or injury stemming from their service. We want to help these people through the holidays. It’s kind of like other holiday donation drives, but we serve exclusively veterans and their families. We partner locally with VFWs, American Legions, Holly Area Veterans Resource Center and other veterans’ organizations, so we’re able to get our gifts directly to local families.”

Donations can be dropped off at the funeral home on Saturday during the event, and up to Dec. 15 during regular business hours. Organizers ask for new toys for children, gift cards and other items for tweens and teens, as well as monetary donations. All donations are tax-deductible.

Other Genesee County Operation Toy Soldier donation barrels are located at Flint Elks Lodge; Real Estate for a Cause; WRSR 103.9; American House Grand Blanc; Brookdale Grand Blanc; City of Grand Blanc Chalet Shoppe; The Oaks at Woodfield; Abbey Park and Burton VFW.
