Parents As Teachers achieves award

GRAND BLANC — The Parents as Teachers program in Grand Blanc has earned national recognition.

“Because of the hard work of our parent educators, the program was awarded the Blue Ribbon from the National Parents As Teachers Center,” said Brandi M. Anderson, Early Childhood coordinator for the Grand Blanc Community Schools. “This means that we met the quality markers deemed most important to provide the highest home visiting service possible to our families.”

The benchmark includes 75 markers, and the program was recognized as meeting 89 out of 100 possible quality standards.

“We are dedicated to continuing to provide our families with the best services to support Grand Blanc families in the biggest job of all – parenting,” said Anderson.

“Our parents are their child’s first and most important teachers. We want to ensure that our families have what they need to support their family’s wellness, their child’s development, and their child’s kindergarten readiness.”

The Parents As Teachers program has served Grand Blanc families for 30 years and coordinators plan to continue striving for excellence in this endeavor, Anderson said. — L.R.
