The Lions’ season is over after a thrilling 31-0 win over the Green Bay Packers Sunday. The Packers played like they didn’t care. Detroit’s win will have it selecting in the eighth spot of the 2019 NFL draft.
However, before we close out the season, I would pink slip Detroit coach Matt Patricia and write it on a napkin with his own lead pencil. It would say: You’re fired! And thanks for nothing! He did nothing to improve this football team, as it actually regressed. The Arizona Cardinals parted ways with Steve Wilks one year after he was hired and I applaud the Cardinals for the move.
The Ziggy hit numerous coaches and the list of walking papers goes like this: Marvin Lewis of the Bengals, Dirk Koetter of Tampa Bay, Todd Bowles of the New York Jets, Vance Joseph at Denver, Adam Gase at Miami, and weeks ago, Mike McCarthy at Green Bay. Hue Jackson got axed months ago from Cleveland. How about eight NFL job openings?! I have news for pencil breath, he will be on next year’s Ziggy list; trust me on that. Let’s get to NFL playoff predictions as this week the games are tremendous.
The first game is Saturday at 4:35 p.m. with Indianapolis headed to Houston to play the Texans. These teams split two games this year, each winning a game on the road. The play of Andrew Luck has been incredible after not playing at all last season. The Colts are red-hot after starting the season 1-5. The Houston Texans also ran off a huge win streak in the middle of the season. Houston is favored by two points to win this evenly-matched contest. The prediction: Houston 23 and Indy 20.
The second game on Saturday has a kickoff slated for 8:15 p.m. in Dallas. The Seattle Seahawks will fly to Jerry’s World to play America’s team, the Dallas Cowboys. These two teams are also a tossup, as I rate them at even. The boys in Vegas have installed Dallas has small favorite of -2.5 points. The Seahawks, to me, have the better quarterback, however the Cowboys have the better running game. The defenses are both solid and will make things difficult for both offenses to move the ball. I like the road team to emerge victorious. The prediction: Sleeping Not in Seattle 21 and Jason Carrot Top 20.
The Sunday slate opens up at 1:05 p.m. in Baltimore with the Ravens and L.A. Chargers hooking up again, as they just played two weeks ago. The Ravens won in L.A., so the Chargers are looking for a revenge-win in Baltimore. The Ravens are favored by a field goal. The Baltimore quarterback, Lamar Jackson, has been spectacular since taking over for Joe “Sucko” Flacco. The Chargers have old man Philip Rivers under center. We all know the Chargers choke in the postseason year after year. It will be interesting to see if this pattern holds true. The two defenses are outstanding and will be fun to watch in this contest. The prediction: The Bolts Show Voltage 24 and Purple Ravens 21.
The final Wildcard Weekend game is in Chicago at 4:40 p.m. with the Super Bowl-Champion Philadelphia Eagles coming to town. The Eagles should thank the Bears for knocking out the Minnesota Vikings before the game starts. A side note: Nice effort, Kirk Cousins. The $28 million waste of cheese! The Bears’ defense has returned to Monsters of the Midway and Philadelphia better strap on their chin straps. I will tell you this, if Nick Foles is out of this contest at quarterback, the Eagles need not show up. I think Foles will play, but he was knocked out of Sunday’s football game. The prediction: Bear Teeth 24 and Eaglets 13.
College recap not glowing
The Michigan Wolverines and Jim Harbaugh should be ashamed of that effort against the Florida Gators. Same ole, same ole with Jimmy Harbaugh against any team that’s worth a darn. The contest winners will be in next week’s paper. Happy New Year! email@example.com
