PATRICIA “TRISH” DOW ASHURKOFF died Sunday, October 4, 2020 in Ashburn, VA, due to complications from a fall.
Trish was born in Detroit, in 1936, to Douglas and Mary Louise Dow. As a child, she was afflicted by Perthes, a disease that attacks the hip bones. Despite spending four years on crutches and wearing a brace, she became a gifted athlete and led an active life without disability.
She made many life-long friends during her education at The George School in Bucks County, PA, and at the University of Michigan, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After earning her degree, she taught history at the University Liggett School in Grosse Pointe, MI.
Trish met her husband, Peter, when he came to Detroit with General Motors. The couple married at the Mariners Church of Detroit in 1958. Early in their marriage, Peter was transferred to Mexico, where they lived for five years.
Upon their return to the states, they settled in Grand Blanc. Trish volunteered throughout the community and served as a board member of the Grand Blanc Library. After retirement, the couple relocated to Ashburn, VA, to be closer to family.
Trish is survived by her husband of 62 years; their children, Stephen (Ellen) of Ashburn, VA, and Cathy Parnell (Terry) of Cocoa Beach, FL; and three grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, Caroline, and survived by three brothers, Bryden, Peter and Stuart.
