FLINT TOWNSHIP — Spring is known as kitten season because it’s the time of year when cats deliver litters of young, flooding the local shelters and rescues with homeless kittens.
This year, PAWS Animal Rescue in Clayton Township and PetCo on Miller Road in Flint Township will join forces with the community to gather up the necessary resources for the abundance of kittens that will seek their help at this time of year.
The no-kill animal rescue and animal product retailer will host a “kitty shower” from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at PetCo.
Shower-goers may meet cats and kittens, play shower games, enjoy refreshments, choose kitten names and win prizes.
In return, event organizers ask that you bring a shower gift to help care for the expected new additions. If you can’t make it to the shower but would like to donate items, there will be donation boxes at PetCo and Swartz Creek Veterinary Hospital where you can leave donated items during January and February.
The wish list includes: litter boxes, scoopers, formula for newborn kittens, dry food, litter (pine pellets used in place of traditional litter), cat scratchers/ poles, canned food, toys, Pet Ag or Hartz bottles and nipples, treats, nail trimmers, flea treatment products like Revolution or Advantage for cats and kittens, metal shower curtain clips to hang hammocks inside cages, towels or gently used sheets to make hammocks. — L.R.
