Peckham hosts manufacturing hiring event for people with disabilities

FLINT TWP. — Peckham Inc. will host a hiring event for individuals with disabilities or other barriers to employment interested in apparel sewing machine operator jobs on March 13.

The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Genesee Valley Center Mall, 3341 S. Linden Rd., Flint.

Wages for apparel sewing machine operator jobs start at $10 an hour and range up to $20.25 for advanced skill. Peckham offers health benefits and other on-site support services. Paid training, bonuses and opportunities for overtime and upward mobility are also available.

This hiring event is a result of Peckham’s recent expansion to the greater Flint region. The organization will renovate the building located on 3080 S. Linden Road into 33,000 square feet of manufacturing space and anticipates providing up to 200 sewing machine operator job opportunities over the next 12 to 18 months for people with a wide range of disabilities.

Peckham is a leading provider for high performance fleece and cold weather clothing for the military. Peckham also manufactures clothing for the commercial market. The interview team will be located in the old University of Phoenix space, in the JCPenney wing of the mall. Renovations to the building have an expected completion by late spring 2019. With more than 33,000 square feet of manufacturing space, and more than 8,000 square feet of office and classroom space, the renovated facility will feature universal design principles and sustainable elements, reflective of Peckham’s thoughtful design approach at its other locations. It will include flexible office space, an internet café, an on-site wellness center, training rooms and more to create a welcoming and respectful work environment for future clients and staff. — G.G.
