FLINT TWP. — On Thursday, August 3, the Flint Township Police Department was notified by the Toledo Police Department, Ohio, that they had located 13-year-old, Aireona Smith.
Aireona Smith was reported as a runaway to the Flint Township Police Department on August 1, 2016 and had been missing since. The public was asked for assistance in locating her. Numerous tips were generated throughout the year by citizens, social media, missing persons groups, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). All leads were investigated, but police were unsuccessful in locating her.
On August 3, 2017, Aireona entered a public library in Toledo, Ohio. A security guard stationed at the library, recognized her from a missing person’s poster and called 911. The responding officers confirmed her identity and notified the Flint Township Police Department. Aireona was in good health and it appears she was voluntarily missing and not being held against her will.
On Monday, August 7, Aireona was transported back to Flint. She will now receive assistance from Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
