FLINT TWP. — Two men are in custody following a break-in early Saturday at Radio Shack, 3306 Miller Road.
According to a press release, township offers responded to a burglar alarm at the store at about 1:57 a.m. on Sept. 22.
The first responding Officer to arrive on scene observed a vehicle backed up to the door with the rear hatch open. He also saw the glass smashed out on the store’s entrance door.
The Officer saw a male in the passenger seat who was ordered out of the vehicle.
At that point, a second suspect exited the building, got in the driver seat and began accelerating in the direction of the responding Officer. The Officer fired several rounds at the suspect vehicle as the vehicle came towards him. The suspect vehicle fled out of the parking lot onto Miller Road. The initial responding Officer was able to take the original male suspect into custody.
The suspect vehicle continued eastbound on Miller Road where additional officers spotted the suspect vehicle and a pursuit ensued by Flint Township Police units. The suspect vehicle continued from Miller Rd to northbound I-75 where the driver lost control and ran into a ditch.
After regaining control, the driver in the suspect vehicle began ramming the cars of two pursuing Flint Township Officers. The suspect eventually lost control again while attempting to ram an Officer’s patrol car just north of Corunna Road on I-75. The suspect was taken into custody.
Both males were lodged at the Genesee County Jail. No one was injured from the Officer’s gunfire or during the chase.
It was confirmed that the suspect vehicle was stolen out of the City of Flint. The investigation is still ongoing. — Rhonda S. Sanders
