August crime report
FLINT TWP. — August was a busy month for the police department, according to a report to the township board from Lt. Robert Batinkoff, who was filling in for Chief George Sippert.
Last month, police arrested 389 people, Batinkoff reported. Of those, 207 were for preexisting warrants, 182 for new criminal charges. Included were three for robbery, nine for felony assault, 15 for misdemeanor assaults, three for breaking and entering, six for various fraudulent crimes, 40 for drug-related offenses, eight for prostitution,
10 for weapons violations, seven for disorderly conduct and six for drunk driving.
Batinkoff also provided details of an armed robbery on Aug. 23 at Sunridge Apartments on Flushing Road. The victim provided a description of the suspect whom he said approached him on foot and demanded what he had in his pockets. The victim pushed his hands away and was shot in the hand. A second bullet was shot past the victim’s head. The suspect fled. He was described as a stocky black male in his early 20s, about 5-foot-8 with a thick beard, wearing a hoodie with the No. 23. — Rhonda Sanders
