FLINT TWP. — It I becoming more common nationwide for crimes of opportunity to be reported at shopping malls, airports, movie theaters and other public venues, which makes it vital to have a more prepared security team.
Sixteen security officers for Allied Universal, who are contracted to provide security services at Genesee Valley Center shopping mall, recently received specialty training from the Flint Township Police Department, according to Police Chief George Sippert.
Allied contacted the policed department about providing the training, which was held last week, Chief Sippert said. The township also has an officer permanently assigned to mall duty.
Training included preparation for active shooter events, lockdowns and evacuation in the event of situations that can occur at malls.
With more than 50 years of experience, Allied Universal is the largest provider of security services In North America, according to its web site. Allied Universal was formed in August 2016, through the merger of AlliedBarton Security Services and Universal Services of America.
