Police Department reopens to the public

FLUSHING — The Flushing City Police Department has opened to the public as of June 8, in concurrence with the reopening of Flushing City Hall. The department will be open at normal hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

All residents who enter the police department lobby are asked to wear masks. Floor markings have also been set up in the police department lobby to encourage social distancing. To request an interview with police, you must contact the office ahead of time at 810-659-3119. Face-to-face interviews will only be granted when deemed necessary.

Following the reopening, Flushing police have restarted several routine procedures, such as accepting pistol permits and fingerprinting/ processing suspects. While the department is responding to more calls in-person, officers have been instructed to conduct most of their investigations remotely. Police who do respond to calls in-person will continue to carry out investigations in an open environment and at a safe distance from residents. — B.G.
