FLINT TWP. — Melanie Withey and Keith Bennett are the newest township hires.
Withey topped 21 applicants for a clerical position with the township police department, said Police Chief George Sippert. She filled a vacancy created by a resignation in October. She had been working part-time for the department as a communications operator and is familiar with the police reporting software system, he said.
Trustee Barb Vert asked if the position was posted on the Michigan Works job site in an attempt to reach more applicants.
Chief Sippert said it would not but would consider it for future openings.
Bennett received a conditional offer of employment as an on-call fire fighter. Fire Chief John Ringwelski said he is a god candidate who comes with training and has flexibility to leave his day job, as needed.
