Police investigating ‘suspicious’ death in Atlas Township

ATLAS TOWNSHIP — The Genesee County Sheriff Office and state police were investigating the death of a 34-year-old Flint man whose remains were discovered Sunday in an Atlas Township field.

Jesse James Byars died of “suspicious causes” some time between 10 p.m. Saturday, July 10, and 5 a.m. Sunday, July 11, according to Sheriff Chris Swanson. His remains were discovered in a field in the 5100 block of South Vassar Road, near Jordan Road.

Swanson said Byars had a Flint address but was most recently living in Atlas Township.

As of press time, no suspects were in custody and investigators were asking the public for information that may help solve the case.
