Police officer hired, another retires

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Board of Trustees hired one police officer and accepted the resignation of another on Monday.

Ryan Turvey was hired effective March 25 at a rate of $23.43 per hour. Because Truvey served as a police officer for the City of Flint for 10 years, Chief of Police Kevin Salter recommended his starting pay be set at the “start of second year” level.

After completing 16 weeks of field training with another officer, Truvey’s pay will increase to a “start of third year” level of $24.90 per hour. Truvey also will be reimbursed for the cost of recertification training after one year of employment as a Flint Township police officer.

The board accepted Sean Fulco’s resignation from the police force effective March 13.

Fulco had been employed as a police officer for about a year and cited personal reasons for leaving the position.

When fully staffed, the department employs 45 police officers, and there are now two vacancies in the department. — J.J.
