Police search for ATM thieves in Flint Township

FLINT TWP. — Flint Township police are on the lookout for a group of thieves who smashed a vehicle into a local liquor store and stole an ATM.

During the early morning hours of Sept. 5, police were dispatched to Rapid Liquor on the 4000 block of Beecher Road for an alarm. Upon arriving at the scene, officers noticed that the front doors and a cinder block wall had been smashed out and that the store ATM was missing.

Investigators reviewed store surveillance cameras and identified three males backing a gray late 90’s to early 2000’s Chevrolet Silverado through the front doors. The suspects then stole the ATM and fled northbound on Mill Road.

Police said that the ATM and pickup were recovered on the morning of Sept. 5 near the former Flint Northern High School. Authorities have also reported that the pickup had been stolen the previous evening from an apartment complex in Flint Township. The suspects are still at-large.

Store owners have confirmed that $3,500 was stolen from the ATM, and that the Rapid Liquor store sustained at least $40,000 worth of damage. The owners have offered a $500 reward for anyone who has information on the suspects or the break-in. — B.G.
