Harlie Putman of Swartz Creek showed her fandom by wearing full purple-accented Donatello gear for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Day, a children’s event during the Get- Pop Cultured Celebration at Barnes & Noble bookstore. The celebration began July 23 and wrapped up last weekend with Page & Screen Weekend where participants of all ages were invited to dress as their favorite book or movie character. R2-D2 of “Star Wars’ fame and crew members from “Pirates of the Caribbean” were among expected special guests, according to Katie Hugelier, community relations manager. Other featured events included “Batman Day” on July 23, observing the 75th anniversary of the caped crusader and “Frozen” Friday on Aug. 1 that attracted more than 150 costumed fans who came to sing-along with Olaf, Hugelier said. On Ninja Day, children participated in paper-and-pencil activities, made masks in the signature color of their favorite Ninja Turtle (orange, blue, red or purple), enjoyed refreshments, received an honorary “Certificate of Ninja Training Completion,” and entered a drawing to win Ninjarelated prizes.
