LAPEER — VIEW Newspapers is pleased to welcome Brandon Pope to the sports staff. Pope, a Flint resident and 2007 Flint Central grad, joined the staff this week and rounds out the VIEW sports staff that now numbers five.
Pope is passionate about high school sports and was a fouryear varsity baseball player at Central and was named All-City in 2007.
“Pursuing college journalism is a tough challenge,” Pope said. “I feel it is better to learn the profession in the field with other reporters, rather than from teachers who have never worked in the field. I am absolutely ecstatic that I landed a job here in the sports department. I have wanted to be a sports writer for many years, and landing this job prevented me from being stuck at dead end jobs.”
“I am most looking forward to the fall and winter seasons,” Pope added. “My favorite sport is a dead tie between football and hockey, and I look forward to covering those sports.”
With 22 high schools in the VIEW coverage area, we’ll be able to fulfill that wish for Pope. Prior to joining the staff, Pope freelanced for the Flint Journal and was a statistician for the Flint Fury semi-pro football team, and also was a media intern for the Flint Generals. “I have much experience working in the local sports industry,”
“We are excited to have Brandon join the VIEW staff,” said Sports Editor Lisa Paine. “His passion for the local high school sports scene and his past experiences with the Greater Flint Area various levels of semi-pro and pro sports is an added bonus. His addition to our already award-winning sports staff bodes well for our continuing growth in our successful market areas.”
