Public hearing scheduled for block grant amendment

FLINT TWP. — The township board has set a public hearing for its Dec. 19 meeting to amend its 2011 Community Development Block Grant projects list for street and lighting improvements.

Township Supervisor Karyn Miller explained that the change to the current 2011 contract is to add more streets to the projects list, particularly Ridgecliffe, Foxboro, Ryan and Jacque streets in the Hunters Ridge subdivision off Court Street.

Bobby Leflore, a 23-year resident of the subdivision appealed to the township board back in May to do something about deteriorating street conditions.

Leflore said then that three major streets in the subdivision — Ryan, Jacque and Ridgecliffe Drive — were filled with pot holes and almost impossible to drive down.

Subject to the outcome of the public hearing, those streets in Hunters Ridge would be added to the CDBG list for consideration for road resurfacing, Miller said.

The unexpended balance for CDBG streets and lighting projects is $66,517 and must be spent by April 30, 2013.

The total unexpended amount for all open 2011 projects is $180,547. That includes $20,689 for code enforcement, $34,000 for demolition, $20,000 for ditching improvements, $16,600 for senior center improvements, $6,000 for sidewalk improvements, $9,738 for senior center activities and $7,000 for crime awareness. — Rhonda Sanders
