FLINT — A group of community agencies and organizations have come together to honor Dr. M. Richard Shaink, president of Mott Community College, with a reception planned for 5-7 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Flint Institute of Arts. This event is free and open to the public.
The MCC President has been named the best community college president/CEO in North America by the Washington-based Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), receiving the 2010 Marie Y. Martin Chief Executive Award at the ACCT Annual Community College Leadership Congress held in Toronto, Canada Oct. 22.
Partnering to honor Shaink for his outstanding achievements at the helm of MCC, are The Foundation for Mott Community College, MCC Board of Trustees, the C.S. Mott Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Flint, Flint Institute of Arts, Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce, Hurley Medical Center, MCC Bruin Club and MCC Student Government.
This year, there were a total of 43 CEO nominations from the ACCT five geographic regions. Nominations are evaluated by ACCT’s Central Region Awards Committee, which is comprised of presidents and trustees selected from ACCT member institutions in the region. It was their choice to award Shaink with the Central Region CEO Award. He was then the automatic and sole nominee from the Central Region for the Association’s Marie Y. Martin CEO Award. The Association Awards Committee then selected Shaink from among the five regional CEO winners for the award which was announced during the Annual Awards ceremony held in Toronto.
