Regional tournament underway for hockey teams

MIDLAND — High school hockey teams began their postseason yesterday. The Pride received a bye in the Div. 2 tournament at Midland and await the winner of Midland or Bay Area Thunder from yesterday’s opening round. That game takes place Friday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. at Midland Civic Center.

The regional tournament kicked off at 5:15 p.m. yesterday, Feb. 26, with Saginaw Heritage, ranked No.2 as of the Jan. 30 Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association rankings and No. 7 in the Super 10 rankings, facing Essexville-Garber. Lapeer (Lapeer, Almont, LakeVille, North Branch) gets that winner Friday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.

The title gets decided March 4 at 7:15 p.m. — L.P.
