GRAND BLANC — On Jan. 29, at 6:30 p.m., the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Grand Blanc will officially get under way as event volunteers and participants gather at Genesys Administration Building (5445 Ali Drive, Grand Blanc) for a kickoff rally to launch their fundraising efforts for the year.
Although the Relay For Life of Grand Blanc is more than five months away, now is the time to get involved.
One in every 100 Americans participates in this fundraising event that has become a global phenomenon. Residents are invited to attend the kickoff celebration to learn more about the upcoming event and how they can become part of an exciting overnight event that will pave the way to a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
As everyone who’s been affected by cancer knows, birthdays are an incredible milestone to celebrate. 2013 has extra special meaning as it marks the American Cancer Society’s 100th birthday.
This year is also unique for Grand Blanc in particular because Relay For Life will offer the opportunity to participate first hand in a landmark new cancer research study, Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3).
This is an opportunity for those who have never been diagnosed with cancer to actively get involved in the very research Relay helps to fund, to help prevent cancer for this and future generations. Enrollment information will be available at the Kickoff Rally.
Relay For Life participants and visitors have a chance to celebrate the victory of local cancer survivors during the Survivors Lap; remember those who are fighting cancer or those have lost their battle to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony; and participate in the Fight Back Ceremony, which gives everyone a chance to proclaim his or her own way of taking action against the disease.
The 2013 Relay For Life of Grand Blanc will take place on June 1-2 at Grand Blanc High School at 10 a.m. Details: Call 248- 613-0120. — P.B.
