Rep. Smiley gets Lansing committee assignments

BURTON — State Rep. Charles Smiley (D-Burton) announced Jan. 25 his committee assignments for the 2013-14 legislative term.

Smiley will serve on the Agriculture and Transportation and Infrastructure committees.

Smiley was also named the Democratic vice chairman of the Natural Resources Committee.

“I’m pleased to be involved in some of the most important issues facing my constituents,” Smiley said, in a press release. “The governor has spoken extensively about road funding, and I will work to improve our infrastructure without putting a larger economic burden on middle-class families.”

In last year’s election for the 50th district house seat, Smiley won a second two-year term against Grand Blanc Republican Miles T. Gadola.

Smiley served as the mayor of Burton for 19 years.

Smiley represents the 50th District which encompasses the city of Grand Blanc, the city of Burton, Grand Blanc township and Mundy township.
