LAPEER — The fourth annual Robo-Con is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, July 22 at the Lapeer Center for Innovation (formerly Lapeer West High School).
Started by the FIRST Robotics Lapeer Chimeras Team 1684, last year Robo- Con brought on a number of community partners, including View Newspaper Group, to help grow the popular event. Those partners along with sponsors will host the annual event expected to see about 1,000 people in attendance.
“We have seen this event grow year after year and we can’t wait to return for the 2017 event,” said Elizabeth Lowe, a parent and volunteer who has helped to organize Robo-Con since its beginning. “The planning committee has worked hard this year to ensure a day full of fun and learning.”
Along with families and supporters, Robo-Con hosts 20 robotics team from around the state. Those attending from Genesee County include: Hybrid Hornets from Flint, Megatron Oracles from Flint, Cyber Phoenix from Flint, Martians from Goodrich, EngiNERDS from Grand Blanc, Fridgebot from Grand Blanc, Engineers on Fire from Burton and House of Cards from Davison.
The free event features hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activities for all ages, exhibition robotics matches, the opportunity for guests to drive robots, demonstrations and more.
Apollo 11 Founding Members include View Newspaper Group, Cypress Integration Solutions, The Robot Space, Lapeer Community Schools and Lapeer Robotics. Sponsors on board the 2017 event include Kettering University, Maritz Inc., Lakestone Bank & Trust, Village Printing, Louie’s Sports Tavern and Flint Area School Employees Credit Union.
