FLINT TWP. — Jonathan Powell and Jahanna Miller-Thompson, both seniors at Carman-Ainsworth High School, were selected as January Students of the Month by the Genesee Valley Rotary Club.
Jonathan was recommended by Jennifer Hartman, his social studies teacher and C-AHS principal Debbie Davis. He is enrolled in the Dual Enrollment Educational Partnership (DEEP) Medical Sciences Program as a dual enrollment student at the University of Michigan- Flint.
He also is a member of the C-A High School Orchestra, serves on the executive board of the C-A Student Council as treasure, is a member of the National Honor Society and the African-American Student Association. Jonathan also is a varsity football player and runs track.
He currently is exploring options for college including Grand Valley State University, Ferris State University or Ferris College where he hopes to play football. His career goal is to become a physical therapist or athletic trainer.
Jahanna was recommended by Phil Dupuis the advanced placement psychology teacher. She is enrolled in the dual enrollment program with Baker College of Flint where she takes general studies courses in American Sign Language and Oral Communications. She is a member and vide president of the C-a Drama Club and also a member and vice president of the Chorale. Jahanna is planning to attend Eastern Michigan University with a major in either psychology or music education.
