BASEBALL

The Cavaliers swept Saginaw on Monday, winning 11-0 and 6-1. Carman-Ainsworth took a 9-0 lead in the first inning of the early game and added two in the third to take the win.

Dion Smith struck out two in one inning. Ezekiel Ochodnicky tossed two innings, retiring three and walking one while giving up two hits. Kyle Resterhouse fanned a pair of batters in one inning.

Harrison Hogan had two hits, three RBI and a run. Resterhouse added a pair of hits and a run. Cameron Koegel had one hit and scored twice while Wallace Hill had a hit and scored three times. Alex Green, Logan Brassaw and Sean Jerome added a hit each.

In the late game, Carman-Ainsworth scored one in the first and five in the fifth. Saginaw’s lone run of the night came in the sixth.

Koegel was 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI an da run. Brassaw, Garrett Gleason and Ochodnicky had a hit each.

Four pitchers combined on the mound to take the win. Green struck out five and walked two. Jacob Durbin struck out four, walked one and gave up one hit. Koegel retired one and allowed two hits, a run and a walk. Dion Smith struck out two.

The Cavaliers were handed a pair of losses against Flint Powers last Thursday. Carman-Ainsworth was shut out 7-0 in the first game and lost 7-5 in the late game.

Flint Powers scored one in the first, one in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth while holding Carman-Ainsworth scoreless in the first game. Hogan tossed four innings, striking out three and giving up four hits, five runs and four walks. Sean Jerome struck out two and gave up six hits and two runs over two innings. Logan Brassaw, Koegel and Jerome had a hit each.

The late game was tied 1-1 after the first inning in the night cap and the Cavaliers took a 3-2 lead in the third. Both teams scored a pair of runs each in the fourth. Flint Powers then took the win with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Brassaw toed the rubber for 4-2/3 innings, striking out three while allowing seven hits, six runs and seven walks. Gleason threw 1-1/3 innings of relief, striking out one and allowing a run and a walk.

Koegel led the offense with two hits and three runs. Jerome had a hit and three RBI. Brassaw, Gleason and Green added a hit each.

Carman-Ainsworth, 4-8, hosts Lapeer today and will be at Birch Run on Monday. – K.R.

GOLF

The Cavs competed in the second Saginaw Valley League jamboree of the season last Wednesday at Saginaw Valley Public Golf Course. Carman- Ainsworth had just two golfers compete on the day and was unable to post a team score.

Flint Powers Catholic won the event with a 316, while Lapeer was second with a 318 and Grand Blanc third with a 327.

John Karbowski led the Cavs with a 93, while Nathan Ratynski finished with a 112. Aaron Carter did not compete because he was taking an AP exam on the day of the event.

SOFTBALL

The Cavaliers were scheduled to be at Midland Dow last Wednesday, host Flint Powers Catholic on Thursday, travel to Mt. Morris on Saturday and host Saginaw on Monday. However, it is unclear if those games took place.

The Cavaliers were at Bay City John Glenn after Wednesday’s deadline and travel to Lapeer today. – B.P.
