Amir Jackson and the Cavaliers dominated the hurdles events in the Jon Runyan Classic last Friday at Carman-Ainsworth Junior High, taking four of the top six places in the 110 hurdles, the top two spots in the 300 hurdles and first in the shuttle hurdle relay.

GOLF

The Cavaliers finished 19th in the Genesee County Invitational on Monday, shooting 411 at Spring Meadows Country Club in Linden. Tyson Fields and Aaron Floyd each shot 101, Noah Vanderhyde carded 104 and Kaden Rytlewski shot 105.

Flushing won the team title, shooting 317 to beat Holly by five strokes in the 21-team field. Byron’s Brandt Nelson and Powers Catholic’s Blaise Vanitvelt each shot 76 to tie for first individually, one stroke ahead of four other golfers.

Carman-Ainsworth will host Saginaw Valley Lutheran on Monday at Fenton Farms and play in the fourth and final Saginaw Valley League jamboree on Wednesday at the Fortress in Frankenmuth. – D.N.

In Monday’s Saginaw Valley League-South match, the Flint Southwestern Knights had no answer for the Carman-Ainsworth girls’ soccer team as the Lady Cavs cruised to an 8-0 home victory.

Melody Bamford sat atop the score sheet with three goals while Nisreen Shukairy added two. Ariana Vantine, Morgan Overton and Brittany Young each tallied once. Assists were credited to Shukairy, MariAnna Young and Brittany Young. In net, Vantine and Karla Bell shared the victory and shutout. — B.P.
