The Carman-Ainsworth boys qualified for the state finals as a team after placing third at this past weekend’s regional with a 3,923 pinfall. Flushing won with 4,301 and Portage Northern was second with 3,954. The Lady Cavs just missed the cut in fourth with 3,488, but did qualify a pair of individuals. Saginaw Heritage won the girls’ end with 3,737, Bay City Western was second with 3,594 and Holt third with 3,567.
Montanna Andrews placed second individually in the girls’ regional with 1,198 to qualify for the state meet while Caity Cox will join her after a 10th-place performance of 1,107. Jacquelyn Davis had a 979, Molly Doty 940, and Kennedy Hogan 927.
For the boys, Masen Ancira was eighth with 1,182, Robbie Wheeler rolled a 1,145, Zachary Rhodes a 1,022, Joey Wheeler 992, J’Vonte Morris 958 and Ju’Juan Caldwell 904. The qualifiers will compete in the state finals on Friday and Saturday. – B.P.
The Cavaliers’ swim team finished eighth with 86 points at the Saginaw Valley League meet that took place Thursday through Saturday. Midland Dow was first with 517, Heritage was second with 485, Bay City Western was third with 276, Flint Powers was fourth with 261, Bay City Central was fifth with 199, Midland was sixth with 117, Lapeer was seventh with 91 and Davison was tied with Carman-Ainsworth for eighth with 86.
In the 200 medley relay, Nathan Ratynski, Wyatt Pangerl, Brennan Robertson, Carson Koegel, Andrew Fox, Connor Heaton, Cameron Koegel and Ahamad Rutherferd were seventh in 1:54.83. In the 200 free relay, Robertson, Heaton, Pangerl, Carson Koegel, Natalie Cook, Fox, Ratynski and Katie Speaks were fourth in 1:38.22. Fox, Ratysnki, Cameron Koegel, Heaton, cook, Rutherferd, Speaks and Olivia Van Duyne were ninth in 4:15.60 in the 400 free relay.
In the 50 free, Carson Koegel was 11th in 23.39, Robertson was 12th in 23.47 and Pangerl was 16th in 25.22. Robertson was also 15th in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.98. Carson Koegel was 17th in 53.59 in the 100 freestyle. Pangerl was also 18th in 1:12.35 in the 100 breaststroke. – K.R.
