FLINT TWP. — The hometown favorite Rusty Wright Band will perform at a political fundraiser for the Friends of the People slate of candidates for township office, at 7 p.m., Friday May 20 at Carman-Ainsworth High School, 1300 N. Linden Road.

Tickets are $20 (or $10 in advance online with a sign up for the RWB newsletter). More information is available online at www.rustywrightband.com/ tour#post-65 or by calling 810-280-6011.

Wright and his top-drawer band – wife and singer guitarist Laurie Wright, drummer Marc Friedman and bassist Dennis Bellinger (Grand Funk Railroad) – are praised for their “razortight, explosive delivery of inventive blues songs with tasty helpings of Southern rock and Detroit-bred grit,” according to the band’s website. The band is on tour with several stops in Michigan this month.

Wright is the son of former township treasurer Sandra Wright, who served fiveterms before retiring in 2012. The CAHS concert appearance is sponsored by Friends of the People, which is made up of a team of candidates running for township, who will be on hand at the concert to meet the public. They are David Huffman, candidate for supervisor; Lavonna Harris, clerk candidate; Lisa Anderson, treasurer; Joanne Rhoads, Carol Pfaff Dahl and David Dufresne, all candidates for trustee.
