FLUSHING — Flushing High School seniors received a fitting graduation tribute on Sunday when volunteers placed hundreds of congratulatory signs on the front lawn of Flushing High School.
All 341 signs—which represented the total number of 2020 FHS graduates— recognized seniors on the day that they were originally scheduled to walk for commencement (May 31). Each sign was personalized with a student’s name, and most of the signs included photos of graduating seniors.
Flushing resident Heather Wheeler organized the tribute as way to brighten the lives of FHS seniors and give them a special memory of their graduation day. She raised funds for the printing and purchase of the signs through a social media fundraiser and gathered names and pictures of FHS seniors in the week leading up to May 31.
