— The public is invited to join The Salvation Army of Genesee County for the official kickoff of the 2010 Christmas Campaign noon Nov. 12 on the front lawn of The Salvation Army downtown office, 211 W. Kearsley St.
The kickoff features special guest, Flint Mayor Dayne Walling and campaign co-chairs WJRT ABC12’s morning news anchors Karen Gatlin and Larry Elliott, and CARS 108’s morning show hosts Rod Prahin and Erin Bishop. Immediately following the kickoff, the public is invited to an open house with tours of The Salvation Army’s Community Center. Guests will also be invited to a “sneak peak” of the new community exercise/fitness facility scheduled to open in early 2011. Light refreshments will be served until 2 p.m.
Hundreds of Genesee County families seeking help have already applied at The Salvation Army for Christmas assistance with food, clothing and toys.
“It will be a difficult year and we are asking for our community’s support so that more families will be able to enjoy the holidays this year,” said Bill Goodwill, Genesee County Business Manager.
Individuals and families interested in helping out this season can participate in the Adopt-a-Family for Christmas and share the holiday experience by providing toys, clothing and food; volunteer to ring at a kettle; or host a collection box for toys or clothing.
