FLINT — Those in need of help with toys and food for the holiday season will have the option of two locations to apply again this year.
The Salvation Army will take applications for Christmas assistance for Genesee County residents from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, Thursday, Oct. 27, and Friday, Oct. 28 at both the Beecher and Flint Citadel locations. No appointment is needed.
Evening applications for Christmas assistance will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the Beecher Corps (only), 1475 W. Coldwater Rd. Evening sign up is only available for those who are working during the day. You must call the Beecher location at 810-789-4003 to make an appointment for this time slot.
The Salvation Army’s Christmas Assistance program is intended to help Genesee County residents who would otherwise be unable to celebrate Christmas. Children over 14 years of age are not eligible for toys. Families may apply to only one agency for Christmas Assistance.
To sign up for assistance you must have the following documents with you. There will be no exceptions:
Current Michigan I.D. or Drivers License and Social Security Cards for ALL adults in the household.
Proof of dependents in the home – birth certificates and Social Security cards. Must be parent or provide proof of legal guardianship.
Current bills for the last 30 days — Bills must contain the name and address of the individual applying for assistance. Current bills include: rent, mortgage, water, gas, electric, telephone, cable, etc.
Proof of income for the last 30 days — pay stubs, child support statements, Social Security, SSI, SSDI, DHHS statement, Unemployment/Workman’s Comp, etc.
