FLINT – The Salvation Army is looking to help underprivileged families during the holiday season, as the organization accepts applications for Christmas assistance now through Oct. 30, at its Flint locations.
The Salvation Army’s Christmas assistance program is intended to help those who “would otherwise be unable to celebrate Christmas,” representatives said.
According to recent Census data, municipalities such as Mt. Morris (28.6 percent), Mt. Morris Township (30.4 percent) and Flint (38.2 percent) have the highest poverty rates in the county, but poverty is still present in places such as Grand Blanc (10.3 percent), Fenton (11.1 percent) and Davison (18.8 percent).
Applications will be accepted from all Genesee County residents from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at The Salvation Army at 211 W. Kearsley St. in downtown Flint, and The Salvation Army Beecher Corps located at 1475 W. Coldwater Road.

Those in need of help with toys, food, and clothing for the holiday season will have the option of applying at either of the two locations this year. No appointment is needed.
