Salvation Army Red Kettles in the community


GENESEE COUNTY — The Salvation Army held its Red Kettle Campaign is underway for the season.

Christopher Estes , President and CEO of Security Credit Union is this year’s Honorary Christmas Chair and recently presented a check for $5,000.00 toward the Red Kettle goal.

“Our goal for the 2019 Red Kettle Campaign will be $800,000 and we are relying on the generosity of Genesee County residents more than ever. We are confident that they will come through in helping us to continue our work in this community to ensure we are providing every basic need services the residents of Flint and Genesee County face. Financial challenges impacting the ability to stay in their homes and provide food and warmth to their children,” said Major Randy Hellstrom, Coordinator for The Salvation Army Genesee/ Shiawassee Regional Command. This event serves as the beginning of The Salvation Army’s 2019 Thanksgiving and Christmas fundraising program, which will run through Dec. 24.

This year, the Salvation Army will place its Red Kettles at close to 50 locations across Genesee County. Partners in this effort include Walmart, Sam’s Club, Kroger’s, and VG’s. The Salvation Army is still searching for volunteer bell ringers to sign up for two-hour blocks of time throughout the season.

Time2Ring , a volunteer incentive program sponsored by Gaines Jewelry, was announced by Mic Goulet. For every 2-hour shift ringing the bell, volunteers will have an entry form placedintoadrawingtowina1carat total weight diamond cluster ring. Angel Trees will be found inside the Genesee Valley Center Mall by the JC Penney’s entrance. Angel Tree tags provide the Community the opportunity to pick up a tag, purchase and select the perfect gift for a child, with a suggested value of $25 and returning the unwrapped gift to any Angel Tree collection location.
