Search team recovers remains of drowning victim from Millpond

GOODRICH — After more than two days of searching, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Dive Team on Sunday recovered the remains of a boater who went missing on the Atlas Millpond.

NaQuan Khalid-William Baker was one of three people who were fishing from a rowboat that capsized in the pond around 10:15 p.m. Thursday, according to Capt. Todd J. Lanning.

The Dive Team, with assistance from the state police and Atlas Township Fire Department, recovered the 21-year-old Southfield man’s remains about 50 feet from shore at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Lanning said.

Authorities had said that the other two boaters swam to shore and attempted to assist Baker, but he began to struggle, and they lost sight of him. — L.R.
