FLINT — The giving season is here and Flint-based Security Credit Union (SCU) has partnered with three mid-Michigan charities, The Salvation Army, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan (FBEM) and the Old Newsboys of Flint, to give back and spread cheer this Christmas.
“It’s hard to believe the Christmas season is once again upon us, and as we reflect upon a busy year, it’s important to remember those in need,” said Christopher Estes, SCU president and CEO. “Security Credit Union is pleased to partner with charitable organizations like these that share our values and support the community by giving back.”
Now through Dec. 24, SCU offices in Genesee, Lapeer, Saginaw and Shiawassee counties will give hope this holiday season as they participate in The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign. Each credit union will host red kettles to collect donations for the nonprofit’s annual fundraising campaign, which enables the organization to provide holiday meals, warm coats, clothing and children’s toys to families in need. For more information on the Red Kettle campaign, visit www.salmich.org.
SCU members in Genesee, Lapeer and Saginaw counties will have the opportunity to participate in the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan’s Ornament Promotion through the end of the year. For a $1 contribution, members will receive a paper Christmas ornament to sign and hang in their local office. Each $1 donation enables the FBEM to provide six meals to community members in need. Exclusively in Genesee County, SCU offices will be collecting monetary donations to benefit the Old Newsboys of Flint’s Sponsor a Child Program.
