Sen. Peters applauds Federal Trade Commission investigation of Equifax

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Gary Peters (MI), a member of the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, released a statement last week applauding the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) decision to investigate Equifax’s data breach. Peters sent a letter this week urging the FTC to investigate whether Equifax misled consumers and failed to maintain adequate security protocols. As a result of the data breach, consumers who had their credit checked by Equifax in order to buy a car or a home, start a business, or apply for a job, have now been exposed to scammers, identity thieves and cyber criminals who could exploit and ruin the creditworthiness of millions of hardworking Americans. It is imperative to uncover the root cause of this breach and determine the necessary measures to protect consumers and their personal data in the future, Peters said. – R.S
